FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Counselling & Psychotherapy Effective?
Counselling & Psychotherapy is effective when we:
- work together on a weekly, regular basis
- create a safe environment together, where you can work on the challenges you are facing in a constructive, respectful space
- address the underlying causes of what has brought you to therapy, by focusing on the challenges or difficulties you are currently facing
- examine your choices, to find a way for you to move forward in your life
- work on reducing the effects of any substances or alcohol that may be negatively affecting your thought processes and your body
- ensure that we are a 'good fit', in terms of my being the right therapist for you

How long is each session?
Sessions take 50 minutes. Punctuality for sessions is essential.
Can I come less than once a week?
I would suggest that you make therapy a priority and attend on a weekly basis. This allows the relationship between us, client and therapist, to form and your process and progress will be much slower without this weekly contact.
Therapy takes time and commitment. By committing to the process it will ensure that you are giving yourself every possible chance to heal and to find peace.

How long will it all take?
The circumstances of you attending therapy and the relationship between us will be important factors in determining the length and success of the therapy.
We will discuss the length of the therapy at our first meeting, we will also look at goals and aims for your therapy along with a timeframe. I usually work for 6 sessions and after this we will have a review of the work we have done together.
People may come to therapy hoping to have a solution in a short timeframe; for some this may be the case but for others it may not. It is important to come with an open mind.
Therapy is very individual and what suits one may not suit another. If you decide to finish therapy before you have met all your goals, you will take the tools you have learnt from the therapy and apply this to your life. You can always return to therapy in the future.

Why should I speak to a counsellor or psychotherapist?
Although talking to family and friends can be helpful, sometimes they may not have the ability or tools offered by a trained and experienced counsellor or psychotherapist, who will work with you in a sensitive, respectful and understanding way. Speaking to me offers a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space in which you can examine your difficulties, finding the source of your pain and of your healing. A guide to help you find the way forward.
How much does it cost?
It costs €60 per session and this will be paid at the end of every session. If you wish to cancel a session I will require 48 hours notice, otherwise the fee will still apply. If we can reschedule the appointment for the same week the cancellation fee will not apply, however this will depend on my availability. Receipts can be issued on request.

- A psychiatrist has undergone medical training and can prescribe medication.
- Some psychiatrists may use psychotherapy but most handle the management of medication.
- It is important when choosing your therapist to chose on the basis of a feeling of personal connection, rather than on their training alone.
What is Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy?
Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy considers the whole person, mind, body and spirit.
The Humanistic Integrative approach recognises that the quality of the therapeutic relationship, rather than any one particular theoretical orientation, is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work.
Thinking, sensing, feeling and intuiting are all given emphasis within the framework of the relationship. The model aims to help counsellors understand the complexities of the client’s internal and external experience of the world.
