MATTHEW COX N.C.E.F. First Class HonS.

Matt Cox Neuromuscular Physical Therapy provides safe and effective treatment for pain and injury using an intelligent combination of the latest techniques in neuroscience and myofascial therapy.
This has the potential to create immediate and lasting results by resetting harmful movement patterns in the body and by facilitating the body's natural healing capabilities.
Matt specialises in working with the autonomic nervous system, which can have a positive influence on almost any condition.
Although originally from South Africa, Matt has been resident in Ireland for many years, and is actively sharing his passion for health and fitness. He achieved First Class Honours in Neuromuscular Physical Therapy at the University of Limerick N.C.E.F. in 2006 (National Council for Exercise & Fitness certification), and is a qualified Be-Activated Practitioner Level 1 and 2.
Having worked for 22 years in various sectors of the health and fitness industry, he found his true calling in 2014 as a qualified Neuromuscular Physical Therapist.
Since then he has worked with Anne Sexton Pilates, Greystones Tennis Club, Greystones Athletic Club, and the Rathdrum Rugby Club, and has since opened his own thriving private practice at the Shoreline Leisure Sports Park in Charlesland, Wicklow.

What is neuromuscular physical therapy?
A neuromuscular physical therapist specializes in treating conditions affecting the nervous system and muscles. Their focus is on restoring movement, function, and quality of life for individuals with neuromuscular disorders, injuries, or impairments:
1. Assessment & Diagnosis
Neurological evaluation: Assesses balance, coordination, reflexes, muscle strength, tone, and motor control.
Gait and movement analysis: Identifies dysfunctions in walking and posture.
2. Treatment & Rehabilitation
Neuromuscular re-education: Retrains muscles and nerves to improve movement and coordination.
Manual therapy: Uses hands-on techniques to reduce spasticity, increase range of motion, and relieve pain.
Strength & endurance training: Focuses on muscle activation, functional strength, and fatigue management.
Gait and balance training: Helps prevent falls and improve walking ability.
Task-specific training: Aims to restore everyday functions like standing, reaching, and grasping.
